HELENA ROSA DE CARLOS VILLAMARIN

Helena Rosa de Carlos Villamarín is a Professor of Classical Philology at the University of Santiago de Compostela, affiliated with the Faculty of Philology and the Department of Classical, French, and Italian Philology. She holds a PhD in Classical Philology from the same institution (1992), specializing in Latin Philology and medieval historiography. Her research focuses on medieval Latin literature, the reception of Classical antiquity (particularly Trojan myth narratives), and the works of figures like Isidore of Seville and Rodrigo Jiménez de Rada. She has conducted research in Lisbon, Munich, and Florence, contributing to scholarly projects like the SIFC research group (Síncrisis) and LIRA (Language, Rhetoric, and Ideology).

Her academic contributions include translations of Boethius' Consolation of Philosophy (2005) and critical analyses of medieval manuscripts such as the Códice de Roda. She has been recognized with the Galician Poetry Critics' Prize for her poetry collection Vigo (2007). Her work bridges literary analysis with historical criticism, examining themes like cultural memory, historiography, and textual transmission across medieval and early modern periods. She has authored numerous articles on topics ranging from medieval historiography to the interplay between Latin and vernacular traditions in Iberian literature.

Recent research highlights include studies on the Excidium Troie in Iberian manuscripts (2022) and the Códice de Bamberg (2019), reflecting her deep engagement with medieval textual scholarship and cultural history.
