Hélène ROUSTEAU-CHAMBON is a Professor of Modern Art History in the Department of Art History and Archaeology at the University of Nantes' Faculty of Arts. She has held this position since 2013, following 15 years as a Lecturer at the same institution. Her academic career began with teaching positions at Paris X-Nanterre University in the 1990s.
Her research focuses on 18th century French architectural history with particular expertise in Nantes' urban development, religious architecture, and Atlantic coast architectural networks. She has organized numerous international conferences on figures like Simon Vouet and Philippe de La Hire, and topics ranging from Gothic architecture persistence to royal architects of the Atlantic coast. Her scholarly output includes monographs, edited conference proceedings, and articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Professor Rousteau-Chambon supervises substantial graduate work with 6 PhD theses currently in progress and over 40 Master's theses directed. She holds multiple leadership positions including Head of the Art History degree program, Head of the Research Master's in Art History, and Head of the Professional Master's in Cultural Heritage Promotion.
Her administrative service includes two terms as Director of the Art History and Archaeology Department (2003-2004, 2014-2015) and continuous membership on university governance bodies since 2001. She teaches across the curriculum from undergraduate survey courses to specialized Master's seminars on topics directly related to her research in architectural history and heritage studies.
