About
Prof Gwyn Gould is a Professor at the University of Strathclyde’s Strathclyde Institute Of Pharmacy And Biomedical Sciences. He leads research on glucose transport mechanisms, particularly insulin-regulated GLUT4 trafficking in adipocytes, cardiomyocytes, and skeletal muscle. His work integrates cutting-edge imaging techniques like STED-FCS and dSTORM to study membrane dynamics in health and disease. He holds a PhD from the University of Southampton (1986) and has held positions at Dartmouth Medical School and the University of Glasgow before joining SIPBS in 2019.
Research interests include diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and the molecular machinery controlling insulin signaling pathways. Awards include a Wellcome Trust Research Leave Award (2004) and Fellowship of the Learned Society of Wales (2025). His lab employs models such as genome-edited adipocytes, iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae to study membrane trafficking. Equipment includes advanced centrifuges and imaging systems. He supervises PhD students and accepts research projects in GLUT4 biogenesis, SNARE regulation, and imaging innovations.
