Guy R. Cousins is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mental Health and Human Services at the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA). He holds a B.S. from the University of Maine at Fort Kent (1983) and an M.S.W. from the University of Dundee, Scotland (1991). Previously, he served as the Director of the State of Maine Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services, overseeing both Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services as the Single State Authority. He currently directs the Medical Professionals Health Program, supporting healthcare workers impacted by mental health, substance use, or behavioral challenges.

Research & Professional Roles: Cousins specializes in behavioral health, substance abuse treatment, and clinical supervision. His work spans school-based, community, residential, and hospital settings across Italy, Scotland, and the U.S., addressing needs of adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families. He also serves on key boards, including the Substance Use Disorder Services Commission, Maine Council on Problem Gambling, and Kennebec Behavioral Health’s Program and Services Board.
Additional Activities: He coaches tennis at a local high school, blending professional expertise with community engagement.
