Guy Numa is an Associate Professor of Economics and Director of Graduate Studies at Colorado State University (CSU), within the College of Liberal Arts. He specializes in History of Economic Thought, Macroeconomics, Monetary Economics, and Caribbean Political Economy, with a focus on the role of government in market economies. His research frequently intersects with 19th-century French economists and Caribbean socio-economic issues.
Numa holds a PhD in Economics from Université Paris Dauphine. Prior to CSU, he held roles at the University of Massachusetts Boston, Harvard University, and institutions in France. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of the History of Economic Thought and History of Political Economy.
His research interests include Jean-Baptiste Say, Léon Walras, and the historical development of economic theory. Notable works include a book on French railroad regulation and co-authored studies on social movements in Guadeloupe and Martinique. He was awarded the 2016 ESHET Young Researcher Award for contributions to the history of economic thought.
Numa’s publications critically analyze historical economic theories, challenge flawed interpretations of classical economists, and explore colonial legacies in Caribbean economies. His recent work extends to W.E.B. Du Bois’ economic ideas and debates over Say’s Law.
