Gustav Medicus is an Associate Professor and Division Coordinator of Art History at Kent State University's School of Art. He earned his BA from Earlham College and PhD from Indiana University, specializing in Italian Renaissance art under Professor Bruce Cole.
His research focuses on Sienese Renaissance art, particularly the works of Domenico Beccafumi, and broader cultural connections between Sienese and Florentine artistic traditions. Current work examines innovation in Sienese Renaissance art.
He teaches courses covering Early Italian Renaissance, Mannerism, Venetian Renaissance, and Baroque Art. Recognized for teaching excellence, he received Kent State's Distinguished Teaching Award in 2002. He directs a summer study program in Italy focused on art and cultural immersion.
