Guru Subramanyam is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Dayton's School of Engineering. He holds joint appointments in the Electro-Optics and Photonics program and the Bioengineering Graduate Program. His research focuses on devices and sensors, electronic and electro-optic materials, and microwave circuit design. Subramanyam earned his Ph.D. (1993) and M.S. (1988) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, and his B.E. (1984) from the University of Madras, India.
Education:
- Ph.D., Electrical Engineering, University of Cincinnati, 1993
- M.S., Electrical Engineering, University of Cincinnati, 1988
- B.E., Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University of Madras, 1984
Research Interests: His work spans advanced materials for electronics, including ferroelectric thin films and vanadium dioxide-based tunable components. He explores applications in energy storage (e.g., lithium batteries), microwave devices, and biosensors. Recent projects highlight innovations in ceramic-polymer separators for batteries and reconfigurable RF components using smart materials.
Publications Trends: Over 15 years, his articles emphasize thin film technologies, with a focus on tunable microwave components (defected ground structures), energy storage systems (lithium battery separators), and memristor-based neuromorphic computing. Recent work (2022–2025) highlights advancements in ferroelectric materials and IoT communication platforms.
Labs & Teams: Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams across electro-optics, bioengineering, and energy systems. His research group contributes to the University of Dayton Research Institute's material science and electronics initiatives.
