About
Guojun Liu is a Professor of Polymer Materials in the Department of Chemistry at Queen’s University and holds the Canada Research Chair in Materials Science (Tier 1). His research focuses on polymer nanostructured materials, particularly NP-GLIDE coatings and monolayer coatings, which exhibit exceptional water and oil repellency, anti-smudge properties, and industrial applications such as reducing friction in ship hulls and pipelines.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry (1989), University of Toronto
- M.Sc. in Chemistry (1985), University of Toronto
- B.Sc. in Chemistry (1982), Nankai University, China
Research Interests: Polymer synthesis, assembly, architectures, and applications; omniphobic coatings, ice-shedding materials, and functional filters. His work emphasizes practical solutions for industrial challenges, such as durable anti-smudge surfaces and oil-water separation technologies.
Awards:
- Macromolecular Science and Engineering Award (2007)
- Captain Alfred E. Hunt Award (2011)
- Queen’s Prize for Excellence in Research (2015)
Labs/Teams: Liu Group, which develops advanced polymer coatings and materials for diverse applications. Their innovations include NP-GLIDE coatings and Janus filters for oil-water separation.
