Gunesh Rajan

Gunesh Rajan serves as Titular Professor of clinical-medical sciences at the University of Lucerne's Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, concurrently holding dual leadership roles as Co-Chairman of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery at Luzerner Kantonsspital (LUKS) and Director of the Central Head & Neck Tumor Centre. Previously, he was Professor & Head of Otolaryngology at the University of Western Australia from 2008 until relocating to Switzerland in 2018.

His medical training commenced with Otolaryngology specialization at University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland, followed by advanced Head & Neck and Neurotology-Skull-base fellowships in Barcelona, Spain, and Perth, Australia. These foundational experiences shaped his clinical trajectory toward complex surgical interventions.

Prof. Rajan's research focuses on innovative treatments for head and neck malignancies and skull base pathologies, with particular emphasis on auditory implantation technologies. His work bridges translational research and clinical practice, targeting improved functional outcomes in neurotological reconstruction and tumor resection through minimally invasive approaches.

His scientific recognition includes prestigious fellowships: FSCS (Swiss College of Surgeons) and FRACS (Royal Australasian College of Surgeons), underscoring his standing in international surgical communities.

As an educator, Prof. Rajan supervises surgical trainees, serves as a board examiner, and contributes to medical curriculum development across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. His research program has secured over 3 million AUD in competitive funding, enabling advancements in auditory rehabilitation and head/neck oncology protocols.

At LUKS, he directs the Central Head & Neck Tumor Centre, which integrates otolaryngology, neurosurgery, oncology, and radiology specialists into a coordinated care model for complex cases, emphasizing precision medicine and functional preservation.
