Guillermo Ortega is an Assistant Professor of Higher Education at Texas Tech University's College of Education. His research examines equity issues in intercollegiate athletics, particularly for Latino students at Hispanic-Serving Institutions.
He investigates recruitment pathways, student-athlete activism, and institutional policies affecting underrepresented athletes. Current projects analyze athletic transfer patterns and identity development among Latinx athletes.
Ortega's scholarship combines qualitative methodologies with critical policy analysis to address systemic barriers in college sports. Recent publications focus on community college athletic pathways and campus engagement.
