Guiling Hu is a Senior Lecturer and Advisor in the Department of Chinese at the University of Maryland's School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. She holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from Georgia State University and an MA in Applied Linguistics from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Her research focuses on second language teacher education, listening processing mechanisms, language attitudes, and prosody across languages.
With extensive teaching experience, Dr. Hu has instructed heritage learners in New Zealand, college and public school students in the U.S., English learners in China, and linguistics courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the U.S. She is currently developing blended and online Chinese courses for the Chinese Program. Prior to her current role, she served as a Chinese specialist at STARTALK and has been a STARTALK site visitor for over a decade.
