Guangjun Liu

Dr. Guangjun Liu is a Professor and SOTI Research Chair in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University. He has been affiliated with the university since 1999 and specializes in robotics, control systems, and aerospace systems with applications in drones/UAVs, surgical robotics, and elderly assistance technologies.

• MASc from Chinese Academy of Sciences (1987)
• PhD from University of Toronto (1996)

His research focuses on developing modular/reconfigurable robots, precision control algorithms, and harmonic drive transmission systems. He has contributed to space robotics through the Kapvik Robotic Mast and conducted applied research in mechatronics and robotic joint torque estimation.

Scientific Awards:

• Canada Research Chair in Control Systems and Robotics (2006-2016)

Dr. Liu has supervised graduate students in projects with the Canadian Space Agency and led the Systems and Control Lab. He has served as Technical Editor for IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics and Associate Editor for International Journal of Aerospace System Science and Engineering.
