Grigory Simin is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Undergraduate Director in the Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing at the University of South Carolina. He holds tenure since 2011 and has over 50 years of research experience in semiconductor devices, with a focus on wide bandgap materials and III-Nitride power devices. His work spans microwave integrated circuits, GaN HEMTs, and high-temperature electronics.
Education: MS (1971) and PhD (1979) in Physics from Leningrad Electrotechnical Institute and GIRICOND Institute, Russia. He joined USC in 2001, previously serving as a Senior Research Scientist in Russia.
Research Interests include wide bandgap semiconductor materials, III-Nitride devices for power electronics, and microwave applications. His innovations address challenges in thermal management, high-voltage operation, and device reliability.
Key Awards: Mungo Teaching Award (2008), Research Progress Award (2005), and USSR Senior Scientist Certification (1985). He has authored over 100 publications and holds patents in semiconductor device design. He serves on editorial and professional committees, including as Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Sensor Council website.
