Grete Dyb is the Vice-Dean for Research and Researcher Education at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo. She holds a Professor II position in the Department of Clinical Medicine and specializes in child and adolescent psychiatry, with a focus on post-traumatic stress reactions, trauma from disasters and terrorism, and child abuse. Her academic roles include leading research programs for medical students, PhD candidates, and postdocs. She has authored numerous studies on trauma's psychological and somatic impacts, particularly in youth exposed to mass violence like the 2011 Utøya attack.
Education: Cand.med. (1988, UiO), Dr.med. (2005, NTNU), Specialist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (2004).
Research Interests: PTSD in children and adolescents, trauma from natural disasters and terrorism, trauma-related sleep disorders, child abuse epidemiology, and mental health preparedness. She collaborates internationally with institutions in the U.S., Europe, and Norway, including the Norwegian Center for Violence and Traumatic Stress Studies.
Publications & Grants: Over 60 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Key projects include longitudinal studies on Utøya survivors' long-term mental health and the development of clinical interventions for trauma survivors. She has held leadership roles in ethics committees and international societies like the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS).
Teaching & Mentorship: Lectures on child anxiety, trauma, and abuse in medical curricula. Supervises PhD students at UiO and NTNU. Engages in clinical teaching in child mental health settings.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with the Norwegian Center for Violence and Traumatic Stress Studies, Oslo University Hospital, and national initiatives like the 22 July Support Group. International partnerships include UCLA's National Center for Child Traumatic Stress and the Lyda Hill Institute for Human Resilience.
