About
Dr Gregory Walsh is a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Science at Oxford Brookes University, affiliated with the School of Sport, Nutrition and Allied Health Professions. He is actively involved in teaching, research supervision, and advancing knowledge in biomechanics and motor control. His work spans both academic and applied domains, with strong emphasis on human movement, ageing, and injury prevention.
His research focuses on the biomechanics and neuromotor control of gait, posture, and falls risk in both healthy and clinical populations. He also investigates sports injury risk factors and preventive strategies. His expertise includes:
- Biomechanical assessment of postural control
- Neuromotor dynamics in ageing
- Effects of load carriage on gait and balance
- Exercise interventions for balance improvement
- Systematic reviews and meta-analyses in sports and health sciences
His recent publications show a consistent trend in studying balance, dual-task performance, and mobility in older adults, as well as methodological advancements in biomechanical measurement. He frequently employs systematic reviews, experimental designs, and neurophysiological assessments to explore the neural and mechanical underpinnings of human movement.
His scientific recognition includes:
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA)
Dr Walsh supervises postgraduate research students and has led projects on falls prevention, ACL injury risk, and skill acquisition. He collaborates within the Sport, Exercise and Physical Activity Research Group (SEPARG) and contributes to research within the Centre for Healthy Living and the Oxford Institute of Applied Health. He teaches across multiple undergraduate programs including Sport and Exercise Science, Sport, Coaching and Physical Education, and Sport, Physical Activity and Health Promotion, and supervises dissertations and research projects.
