Gregory Taylor is a faculty member at Purchase College, State University of New York, where he serves as Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and has been teaching since 1993. He is affiliated with the Conservatory of Theatre Arts & Film and the Department of Cinema Studies, contributing significantly to film scholarship and academic administration.
His educational background includes a BA from the University of Toronto and an MA and PhD in Communication Arts–Film from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Dr. Taylor's research focuses on American film criticism, cult and camp cinema, modernism, the avant-garde, and arts education. His influential book Artists in the Audience: Cults, Camp, and American Film Criticism was published by Princeton University Press. He has also played a major role in curriculum development, particularly in higher education readiness through the College Board’s AP Capstone program.
From 2014 to 2024, he served on the AP Research Curriculum Development and Assessment Committee and completed a five-year term as Chief Reader for the AP Research course, impacting over 35,000 high school students globally.
He has held key leadership roles including Director of the Conservatory of Theatre Arts, Interim Dean of the Conservatory of Theatre Arts & Film and the Conservatory of Dance, and Chair of the Cinema Studies program.
Dr. Taylor advises on educational policy and curriculum innovation. He has contributed to general education reform, academic integrity frameworks, and faculty development initiatives at Purchase College through his role in the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs.
