Gregory R. Evans, MD, serves as Professor and Bruce F. Connell Endowed Chair in the Department of Plastic Surgery at UC Irvine School of Medicine, with a secondary appointment as Professor in Biomedical Engineering. He directs UCI Health Plastic Surgery Services and co-directs the Center for Tissue Engineering.
His medical training includes an MD from University of Southern California School of Medicine, General Surgery residency at Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center, and Plastic Surgery residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Dr. Evans specializes in reconstructive surgery for cancer patients (particularly breast reconstruction), cosmetic procedures for breast and face, body contouring, and microsurgical techniques. His research extends into tissue engineering and peripheral nerve repair through the Center for Tissue Engineering, where he explores regenerative medicine applications for complex reconstructions.
His accolades include multiple inclusions in Best Doctors in America® (2011-2013, 2015-2016) and America's Top Doctors recognition (2012) for subspecialty expertise. The Orange County Medical Association honored him as Physician of Excellence continuously from 2013-2023, and he holds international distinctions as an honorary member of both the Korean and South African Societies of Plastic Surgeons.
Currently leading a multicenter clinical trial on prepectoral breast reconstruction using ARTIA Reconstructive Tissue Matrix, Dr. Evans maintains active clinical practice while advancing surgical innovation. His leadership in the Center for Tissue Engineering fosters interdisciplinary collaboration between surgical, engineering, and biological sciences teams to develop next-generation reconstructive solutions.
