Gregory Patterson

Gregory Patterson is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Dance at Oakland University's School of Music, Theatre and Dance. A faculty member since 1991, he holds an MFA in Dance Performance from the University of Michigan and maintains a 37-year international career spanning performance, choreography, and dance education.

Research and Teaching Interests: Patterson specializes in Jazz Dance, Modern Dance, and Pilates integration within dance training, alongside Musical Theater, Dance History, and production. His choreographic innovations blend technical rigor with artistic expression across academic and professional settings.

Professional Leadership: Founder and 13-year Artistic Director of Patterson Rhythm Pace Dance Company, current Board Director for Michigan Dance Council and Eisenhower Dance Detroit. Leads international programs including Oakland University's Classical Greek Theatre Summer Study in Greece and Berlin Study Abroad initiative.

Performance Highlights: Signature piece "Who's the Boss" performed in Russia by Eisenhower Dance Ensemble; guest artist with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company; choreography presented at Western Michigan University, Michigan Opera Theatre, and Bal-Chi Dance Company of Chicago.
