About
Gregory P. Tochtrop is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the College of Arts and Sciences and holds a joint appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the School of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University. He is also a member of the Developmental Therapeutics Program at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. His research focuses on lipid signaling pathways, oxidative stress, and the role of fatty acid binding proteins. Tochtrop earned his PhD from Washington University in St. Louis (2002) and a BSc from the University of Missouri (2002).
His lab integrates organic synthesis, protein biochemistry, and metabolomics to study lipid pathways in disease contexts. Notable research areas include novel small molecule synthesis, lipid peroxidation mechanisms, and retinoid-based therapies. Collaborative projects span cancer biology, ophthalmology, and drug development. Over 40 peer-reviewed articles highlight his work in J. Am. Chem. Soc., J. Biol. Chem., and Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci.
Recent publications address visual cycle modulation (2025), synthetic methodologies (2023), and retinal disease mechanisms (2022). His research bridges organic chemistry innovations with biomedical applications, supported by interdisciplinary collaborations at CWRU and the Cleveland Clinic.
