About
Professor Gregory Moorhead is a faculty member at the University of Calgary with appointments in both the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. He completed his PhD at Queen's University and postdoctoral research in Dundee before joining the University of Calgary in 1998. His research specializes in protein phosphatases and cellular signaling using interdisciplinary approaches combining biochemistry, molecular biology, and proteomics.
Research interests focus on phosphatase function in human and plant systems, including:
- Cell cycle regulation through type one protein phosphatases
- Novel plant phosphatases and their evolution
- Plant starch metabolism pathways
- Proteomic analysis of PP1 complexes
Publications show consistent focus on phosphatase mechanisms across biological systems, with recent work emphasizing plant enzyme kinetics and mitotic regulation. Award recognition includes the CD Nelson Prize (2006) and CALAS Veterinarian of the Year (2011).
