Gregory Matthew

Gregory Matthew is a Senior Faculty Research Assistant II at Oregon State University's College of Forestry, Department of Forest Ecosystems & Society. His work focuses on advancing geographic visualization, vegetation mapping, and wildfire ecology through innovative spatial analysis techniques. Matthew holds a B.A. in Mathematics from The Colorado College (1993) and an M.S. in Geographic Techniques from Oregon State University (1999).

His research emphasizes applications of Geographic Information Science (GIScience) and Discrete Global Grid Systems (DGGS) to address environmental challenges. Recent studies include understanding conifer forest persistence in wildfire refugia and evaluating biomass mapping discrepancies between Landsat and lidar data. Matthew's contributions support forest management strategies and habitat conservation efforts for species like the greater sage-grouse.
