Gregory L Simon

Gregory L Simon is a Professor at the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver. He also holds an Adjunct Associate Professor position at CU Boulder and is affiliated with the Center for Science and Technology Policy Research. His work bridges human-environment relationships, focusing on sustainability and equity in regions like the American West and India.

Simon’s research includes analyzing socio-economic drivers of wildfires in urbanizing areas of the American West and addressing household cooking technologies in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, India, to mitigate climate change and health impacts. His book Flame and Fortune in the American West (2016) and NSF-funded work in India highlight his contributions.

He serves as Environment and Society Section Editor for Geography Compass and chaired the Cultural and Political Ecology Specialty Group of the Association of American Geographers. Awards include the Pritzker Emerging Environmental Genius Award and Stanford University Postdoctoral Fellowship.
