Dr Gregory James is a Reader in Banking and Finance at De Montfort University, affiliated with the Leicester Castle Business School and the School of Accounting, Finance and Economics within the Faculty of Business and Law. He has been at DMU since 2016 and previously served as a Senior Lecturer in Economics at Loughborough University.

His research focuses on banking, corporate finance, financial economics, infrastructure and project finance, green finance, and FinTech. He examines topics such as interbank markets, project finance pricing, green bonds, and financial regulation using empirical and econometric methods. His recent publications appear in top journals including Journal of Banking and Finance, International Review of Financial Analysis, and Economic Inquiry. These works reflect strong trends in empirical finance, banking stability, and sustainable finance, particularly in developed and emerging markets.

Gregory is actively involved in academic leadership and mentoring. He is the Programme Leader for the MSc Finance and Banking and MSc Finance and Investment programmes and serves as the First Supervisor for PhD student Marindame Kombate. He has secured significant research funding, including an ESRC grant of £520,526 as Co-Investigator and a £130,761 grant as Principal Investigator. His current research projects include studies on green bond certification and public perception of climate change in renewable energy policy.
He is affiliated with the Finance and Banking Research Centre at DMU and holds editorial roles as Associate Editor of the Malaysian Journal of Economic Studies and Editorial Board Member of the Global Finance Journal (Elsevier).
