Gregory Callan

Dr. Gregory Callan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Utah State University, serving as Director of Training for the School Psychology EdS Specialization. He is affiliated with the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services and leads the Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) Lab. His research focuses on innovative SRL measurement methodologies, interventions, and their application in academic and mental health contexts.

Dr. Callan earned his PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, completed a doctoral internship and post-doctoral training with Virginia Beach City Public Schools, and holds licensure as a Health Service Provider in Psychology. He emphasizes SRL processes like goal-setting, strategy use, and reflection, with projects spanning mathematics, creativity, and reading interventions. His lab collaborates on frameworks like the SEE model for SRL-supportive practices and addresses recruitment challenges in school psychology.

Recent research includes studies on mindfulness in reading interventions, cyclical SRL and creativity, and teacher perceptions of SRL. The lab actively engages undergraduate and graduate students, with current members contributing to projects on problem-solving, motivational strategies, and educational equity. Dr. Callan’s work bridges research and practice, aiming to translate SRL insights into actionable classroom tools.
