Gregor Singer

Gregor Singer is an Assistant Professor at the London School of Economics' Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, where he co-leads the Economics of Air Pollution group (EAP). He joined the Institute in January 2021 after working as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of California, San Diego.

His educational background includes a PhD in Environmental Economics from the London School of Economics (2019), an MSc in Environmental Economics and Climate Change from LSE, and a BSc in Economics from Maastricht University. Prior to his academic career, he worked as a consultant at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Global Green Growth Institute.

Dr. Singer's research spans environmental and energy economics, development economics, and empirical industrial organization. His work examines the economic impacts of environmental policies, with particular focus on air pollution's effects on housing markets, health outcomes, and economic disparities. He employs rigorous empirical methods to investigate how environmental regulations affect different demographic groups and economic sectors.

His recent publications reveal a consistent research trajectory examining the intersection of environmental policy and economic outcomes. His work demonstrates how air quality improvements disproportionately benefit white homeowners compared to Black homeowners, how electricity pricing affects industrial productivity, and how pollution exposure influences public health outcomes like influenza hospitalizations.

As co-leader of the Economics of Air Pollution group at the Grantham Research Institute, Dr. Singer directs research on the economic dimensions of air pollution.
