Gregor Colville is a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering at the University of Strathclyde since June 2023. Previously, he held roles at Heriot-Watt University, including Assistant Professor (2016–2022), Associate Professor (2022), and Senior Programme Director of Studies. He is a Visiting Scholar at Queen’s University Belfast’s School of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering since 2020. Currently, he serves as External Examiner for chemical engineering programs at the University of Sheffield (2023–present) and Brunel University London (2024–present).
Education: MEng in Chemical Engineering with Energy Resource Engineering from Heriot-Watt University (1999), MSc in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College London (2000). Professional qualifications include Chartered Engineer and Chartered Petroleum Engineer (2005) via the Energy Institute.
Research interests focus on process safety, petroleum engineering, and innovative teaching methodologies like problem-based learning. He coordinates Year 5 industrial projects and supervises MSc/PhD projects, emphasizing industrial relevance in curriculum design. Academic leadership roles include Industrial Advisory Board Co-ordinator and engagement with professional bodies like the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Awards include Fellow of the Institution of Engineers in Scotland and Senior Member status with AIChE. Prior to academia, he spent 15 years in upstream oil and gas roles at Chevron, Oil Search, and Helix RDS, specializing in petroleum engineering and project management.
