Gregg Lloyd

Professor Gregg Lloyd is a faculty member at Christopher Newport University's Department of Music, Theatre and Dance. He specializes in acting, stage combat, and musical theater performance, with over 125 production credits. He has received multiple Kennedy Center-American College Theater Festival awards for excellence in directing.

His research and practice focus on performance studies, period style combat, martial arts for theatrical applications, and movement techniques like Alexander Technique and Laban Effort Shapes. He has directed notable productions such as Spamalot and Red, and serves as Resident Fight Director for Virginia Stage Company and Virginia Opera.

Professor Lloyd has presented workshops at national conferences including the Southeastern Theatre Conference and SAFD Teachers Symposium, covering topics like character physicality and stage combat pedagogy. He is a Certified Teacher of Stage Combat with the Society of American Fight Directors and holds black belts in Hapkido, TangSooDo, and KaBuTo martial arts.
