Greg Thwaites

Greg Thwaites serves as Research Director at the Foundation and holds a part-time position as Associate Professor in the School of Economics at the University of Nottingham. His career spans both academic and policy-oriented roles, with previous experience as Head of International Research at the Bank of England, work with the United Nations Mission in Kosovo, and the Independent Commission on Banking (Vickers Commission). He completed his PhD in economics at the London School of Economics under the supervision of Silvana Tenreyro.

Thwaites' research focuses on the macroeconomics of demographic and structural change, firm-level data analysis, macroeconomic policy, and inequality and distribution. His work demonstrates a strong connection between theoretical economics and practical policy applications, particularly in understanding how economic forces impact different demographic groups and regions. His research often addresses contemporary economic challenges through the lens of intergenerational equity and spatial economic disparities.
