About
Greg Martin is Professor of Criminology and Socio-Legal Studies at the University of Sydney's School of Social and Political Sciences. His interdisciplinary research examines protest rights, policing practices, social movements, and cultural criminology. Martin has held leadership positions including Chair of Sociology and Social Policy, Interim Deputy Head of School, and Associate Dean of Student Affairs.
Research explores the erosion of protest rights in 'post-protest societies,' criminal justice applications of digital technologies, youth subcultures, and moral panics around immigration. Current projects examine how protest rights are being systematically restricted in liberal democracies.
Publications include books on protest politics, crime media culture, and activist criminology. Recent articles analyze pandemic policing practices and their impact on civil liberties. Martin serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Crime Media Culture and editorial board member for The Sociological Review and Social Movement Studies.
