About
Professor Greg Hurst researches host-microbe symbiosis at the University of Liverpool's Institute of Infection, Veterinary & Ecological Sciences. His work examines how microbial partners influence insect evolution, disease transmission, and pest control strategies.
Current projects investigate temperature-dependent symbiont protection, inherited symbiont dynamics, and genomic adaptations in host-symbiont systems. Recent publications appear in journals including Current Biology and Environmental Microbiology.
Research funding comes from UKRI, BBSRC, and international partnerships. He teaches evolutionary biology across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, supervising student research projects.
