Grazia Deng

Grazia Deng is a Lecturer in the Department of Anthropology at Brandeis University. Her research focuses on Chinese migrant communities in Italy, examining issues such as racial perceptions, cultural adaptation, and transnational entrepreneurship. She holds a Ph.D. from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, an M.A. from Shanghai International Studies University, and a B.A. from the University of International Business and Economics.

Her work explores the intersection of migration, race, and cultural spaces, with a particular emphasis on how Chinese immigrants navigate Italian urban landscapes through businesses like coffee bars and ethnic restaurants. Recent research includes studies on cosmopolitan family dynamics and contested racial identities among migrants.
