Grayson White

Grayson White serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Statistics in the Mathematics and Statistics Department within Reed College's Division of Mathematical and Natural Sciences. He joined the faculty as a new member for the 2025-26 academic year, as indicated by the asterisk next to his name in department listings.

Dr. White is an applied statistician specializing in small area estimation, a field he was introduced to during his undergraduate studies at Reed. His research focuses on implementing model-based and hierarchical Bayesian techniques to produce statistically-defensible estimates in areas with small sample sizes, with particular applications to forestry, ecology, and natural resource management problems.

He maintains active research collaborations with the U.S. Forest Service and serves on the research and development panels of their Partnership for Small Area Estimation. Previously, he served as co-director of the Undergraduate Forestry Data Science Program at Harvard University and Bucknell University, demonstrating his commitment to undergraduate research mentorship.

Dr. White received his B.A. in Mathematics with a concentration in Statistics from Reed College, an M.S. in Statistics from Michigan State University, and is completing a Ph.D. in Forestry from Michigan State University, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to statistical methodology and environmental applications.
