Graham Welch

Graham Welch holds the Established Chair of Music Education at the University College London (UCL) Institute of Education since 2001. He served as President of the International Society for Music Education (ISME) from 2008 to 2014 and currently chairs the Society for Education, Music and Psychology Research (SEMPRE). He maintains Visiting Professorships across UK and international institutions and was previously a member of the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Review College for Music (2007-2015).

His research spans musical development, teacher education, psychology of music, singing and voice science, and inclusive music practices for special education. With approximately four hundred publications, his editorial leadership includes the Oxford Handbook of Music Education (2018), Oxford Handbook of Singing (2019), and upcoming works on early years music. His scholarship demonstrates consistent focus on empirical and applied music education research across diverse learner contexts.
