Graham McPheat is a Senior Teaching Fellow and Director of Global Engagement in the Department of Social Work and Social Policy at the University of Strathclyde. He leads the MSc in Child and Youth Care Studies by Distance Learning, a part-time program accredited by the Child and Youth Care Accreditation Board of Canada. His roles include teaching on the MSc in Advanced Residential Child Care and the BA (Hons) Social Work programs. He was the Lead Educator for the award-winning MOOC 'Caring for Vulnerable Children,' which transitioned into an online module for Social Work students in 2022.
McPheat co-leads an annual Summer School collaboration between the University of Strathclyde and New York University’s Silver School of Social Work, established in 2017. His research interests focus on online/distance learning, child/youth care, residential child care, and leadership in social work education. He has contributed to UN Sustainable Development Goals through projects addressing vulnerable children’s needs.
He has secured funding for projects such as 'The Impact of Covid-19 on Community Participation' (2021–2022) and leads the ongoing 'Caring For Vulnerable Children' initiative. Awards include the Courseware and Curriculum In-House Award (2016) and a nomination for 'Most Innovative Teacher of the Year' (2018).
