Graham M. Schweig is a Professor and Director of Studies in Religion at Christopher Newport University (CNU), Virginia. He also serves as Distinguished Teaching and Research Faculty at The Mira and Ajay Shingal Center for Dharma Studies at the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley. His academic career includes roles as a teaching fellow at Harvard University and visiting professorships at institutions like the University of Virginia. Schweig holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Religion from Harvard, alongside advanced degrees from Harvard Divinity School, the University of Chicago, and American University.
His research focuses on translation and interpretation of classical Sanskrit texts, interreligious theological connections (particularly between Hindu Bhakti and Catholic mysticism), interfaith dialogue, and comparative theology. He has published over 100 journal articles, book chapters, and reviews, including the acclaimed Bhagavad Gītā: The Beloved Lord’s Secret Love Song (Harper Collins, 2010). An upcoming translation of Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtra with Yale University Press is anticipated.
Recognized for excellence in teaching, Schweig has received the CNU Alumni Faculty Award (2013). He is a frequent invited lecturer at the Smithsonian Institution and globally, contributing to academic and public discourse on religion, yoga, and Sanskrit literature. Alongside academic work, he co-founded The Secret Yoga, offering workshops on yoga philosophy, meditation, and sacred texts.
