He holds a personal chair and serves as deputy director of the Ritchie Centre, demonstrating a long-standing leadership role in reproductive and perinatal research.
His research interests span reproductive physiology, stem cell therapies, antioxidant interventions for fetal and neonatal conditions, and regenerative medicine. He is particularly known for his work on stem cell treatments for spinal disc repair and neuroprotection in preterm infants using cord blood and melatonin. His expertise in IVF extends to conservation biology, where he has contributed to the 'frozen zoo' initiative for endangered species.
The recent publications highlight a strong focus on translational medicine, including clinical trials in preterm infants, stem cell therapies for brain injury, and innovative tissue engineering approaches. His work often involves multidisciplinary collaboration across engineering, biology, and clinical medicine, reflecting his emphasis on networking and commercialization.
Graham Jenkin was awarded the Vice Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Innovation and Collaboration in Research with Industry in 2009 for his work with Mesoblast Ltd on spinal disc regeneration. He has played key roles in establishing major collaborative initiatives such as the Victorian Consortium for Cell-Based Therapies and the Australia-China Centre for Excellence in Stem Cells.
He actively contributes to advising on research projects and securing funding, with leadership roles in numerous government and industry-supported grants. His work supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals through advancements in health, innovation, and life on land. He is deeply involved in teams focusing on cell-based therapies, fetal medicine, and regenerative technologies.
