Gottfried Schatz was a renowned Professor of Biochemistry at the Department of Biochemistry, Biozentrum, University of Basel (emeritus since 2000). He held leadership roles including Chairman of Biozentrum (1983–1985) and President of the Swiss Science and Technology Council (2000–2003).
