Gordon Smith serves as Executive Director of the Centre for Global Studies and Adjunct Professor of Political Science at the University of Victoria. A former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (1994-1997) and Ambassador to the EU and NATO, he joined UVic in 1997 after a distinguished career in Canada's foreign service.
He holds a PhD in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
His research focuses on International Relations, particularly Globalization, Sovereignty, and Governance. He has authored influential works on the state in a multipolar world and religion's role in peacebuilding, extending to Conflict Analysis and Climate Policy.
