About
Gordon Bromley is a Research Professor in the School of Earth and Climate Sciences and the Climate Change Institute at the University of Maine. His research focuses on understanding the mechanisms and impacts of climate change, particularly in tropical regions and the global climate system. He investigates glacial geology, geochronology, and the role of the tropics in ice ages and abrupt climate events.
Current projects include collaborations with institutions such as Dartmouth College, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, and the Escuela de Ingeniería de Antioquia (Colombia) to resolve late-Quaternary climate change in the tropical Andes. His work integrates geomorphic mapping, surface-exposure dating, and snowline reconstruction. Additional research examines glacial hydrology in arid tropical regions, volcanic activity linked to deglaciation, and human adaptation in the high Andes during the terminal Pleistocene.
Bromley also studies the deglacial history of Antarctica’s Ross Sea Embayment and abrupt climate change in the North Atlantic region. He is affiliated with the Glacial Geology and Geochronology Research Group and contributes to interdisciplinary teams addressing climate change impacts on ecosystems and societies.
Contact details include his office at the Bryand Global Sciences Center in Orono, ME, and his email: gordon.r.bromley1@maine.edu.
