Dr. Gopala Sasie Rekha is a Lecturer in Criminology and Programme Leader for the MSc in Applied Criminology at the University of Winchester, where she has been since 2021. Her research focuses on human trafficking in Southeast Asia, forensic criminology, gendered aspects of criminal justice, and digital technology’s role in public health and crime prevention.
Her work includes analyzing online communities trading psychotropic plants, public resistance to digital contact tracing during the pandemic, and ethnographic studies of female imprisonment. Upcoming projects explore Myanmar’s indigenous communities’ trafficking experiences, feminist approaches to sentencing female offenders in Indonesia, and legal frameworks for food security and asset forfeiture.
Recent publications span forensic perspectives on human trafficking, cybercrime dynamics around drug trade, and gender studies in incarceration. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges criminology, law, and public health, with a focus on marginalized communities.
