Glyn Watson

Prof. Glyn Watson is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Management at the University of Birmingham's Birmingham Business School. He has held leadership roles including Dean of the Business School (2016–) and Provost at the University of Birmingham Dubai campus (2018–). His academic journey began as a doctoral candidate at the University of Birmingham's POLSIS department (PhD 1996), with earlier degrees from the University of Hull (BA and MA).

His research focuses on governance in business networks, emphasizing structural properties and their impact on managerial choices. Notable projects include a £278k EPSRC grant (2001–2003) analyzing supply chain dynamics and a £78k Oxford Radcliffe Hospital Trust award (2007–) evaluating supplier performance. His work has produced influential books like Power Regimes (2000) and Business Relationships for Competitive Advantage (2004).

Watson's recent publications (2012–2017) explore sustainable supply chains, governance mechanisms, and public sector procurement challenges. His work frequently appears in top-tier journals such as Journal of Cleaner Production and Supply Chain Management – An International Journal. He has advised institutions like the NHS on procurement practices and co-developed CPD programs for healthcare purchasing agencies.

As a leader, he designed the MBA in Strategy and Procurement Management (2004–2007) and oversaw education strategy as Director of Education (2009–2016). His collaborations with industry partners and academic networks have fostered applied research bridging theory and practice in supply chain management.
