Glyn Davis is currently Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and head of the Australian Public Service. He holds the title of Visiting Professor at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, and was previously Distinguished Professor of Political Science at the Australian National University's Crawford School of Public Policy. His academic career includes leadership as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne (2005–2018) and roles in international organizations such as Universitas 21 and the Association of Pacific Rim Universities.
Education: PhD in Political Science from Australian National University, post-doctoral fellowships at UC Berkeley and Harvard University as a Harkness Fellow.
Research focuses on public policy, Australian governance, and higher education leadership. His publications include numerous books and articles on policy-making dynamics. Awards include Companion of the Order of Australia (2002) and honorary doctorates from Griffith University and UNSW.
Prior to his current role, he contributed to the Independent Review of the Australian Public Service (2019). He is affiliated with the Policy Institute within King’s College London’s Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy.
