Gloria Bell is Assistant Professor in the Department of Art History and Communication Studies at McGill University, researching Indigenous visual culture of the Americas.
Research examines exhibition histories of First Nations, Métis and Inuit arts, global Indigenous studies, decolonizing methodologies, materiality studies, and histories of body art. Current project "Eternal Sovereigns" investigates relationships between Indigenous cultural belongings and exhibition histories in Italy.
Publications explore transnational Indigenous exchanges, material sovereignty, and representations of Indigenous cultures in colonial contexts. Recent work examines Lakota travelers in Rome, Edmonia Lewis's artistic career, and Indigenous literacies.
