About
Dr. Glenn Yamakawa is a Lecturer in Sleep and Circadian Biology at the School of Medical Sciences, University of Sydney, and a member of the Brain and Mind Centre. His research focuses on the intersection of circadian biology, traumatic brain injury, and neuroimmunology.
- Key Research Themes: Neurosciences and Mental Health, Healthy Ageing
Dr. Yamakawa's recent work (2022-2024) explores circadian-immune system interactions, microbiome-gut-brain axis modulation, and biomarker development for post-traumatic epilepsy. His studies employ animal models and molecular/cellular approaches to investigate age-dependent responses, sex differences, and therapeutic interventions.
Notable contributions include the 2024 Hidden Gem Award for leadership in circadian biology and the 2022 GIN Discovery Project Seed grant for cross-disciplinary neurotrauma research. He actively participates in the EpiBioS4Rx multisite study on post-traumatic epilepsy and contributes to preclinical MRI harmonization protocols. Dr. Yamakawa also teaches units on Brain and Behaviour, Sleep and Circadian Rhythms, and Sleep and Health.
