Glenn Deer is an Associate Professor in the Department of English Language and Literatures at the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Arts, currently on leave until June 2026. He holds a BA from the University of Alberta and an MA/PhD from York University. His research explores intersections of literature, visual culture, and identity politics, with a focus on Canadian, Asian North American, and global narratives.
Deer's work critically examines themes like race relations, urban spaces, and culinary representation through multimodal frameworks. He co-edited a special issue of Asian Diasporic Visual Cultures and the Americas (2018) and authored Postmodern Canadian Fiction and the Rhetoric of Authority. His recent publications analyze phototextual memory and spatial aesthetics in Pacific contexts.
