Glenn C. Gamst

Dr. Glenn C. Gamst is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychology at the University of La Verne's Cástulo de la Rocha College of Health and Community Well-Being. He holds a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Arkansas. His research focuses on multicultural variables influencing mental health outcomes, including client-therapist ethnic match, acculturation, and cultural competence. He has developed scales like the California Brief Multicultural Competence Scale (CBMCS) and its associated training program, as well as the African American Women’s Shifting Scale (AAWSS), Latina American Shifting Scale (LASS), and Asian American Women’s Shifting Scale (AsAWSS). His work also spans statistical methodologies, including textbooks on SPSS and SAS applications.

Dr. Gamst’s studies analyze how cultural factors impact mental health service delivery, emphasizing marginalized populations. His research extends to broader topics like the American Dream Scale (ADS), measuring socioeconomic orientation. He collaborates with students and colleagues on projects addressing racial disparities in mental health outcomes and intercultural competence. Notably, he co-authored influential graduate-level statistics textbooks such as Applied Multivariate Research and Performing Data Analysis Using IBM SPSS.

His contributions include over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, with recent work on gendered racism, cultural shifting, and intersectionality. Grants and funding have supported his multicultural training programs and scale development. Dr. Gamst actively advises students and maintains academic leadership roles, balancing research with teaching and administrative duties.
