Giuseppe Tronci

Professor Giuseppe Tronci is a faculty member at the University of Leeds with a joint appointment between the School of Design and School of Dentistry. He serves as Deputy Director of the CCTMIH and is an academic co-founder of the spin-out company HYFACOL Limited, focused on collagen-based wound dressings and dental applications.

• Qualifications: PhD in Materials in Life Sciences (University of Potsdam), Laurea Magistrale (MSc eq.) and Laurea (BSc eq.) in Biomedical Engineering (Polytechnic University of Turin), PGCert in Professional Innovation Management (Leeds University Business School).
• Professional Background: Joined University of Leeds in 2011 as a Research Fellow at WELMEC Centre of Excellence in Medical Engineering. Appointed Senior Research Fellow at CCTMIH (2013), Lecturer in Healthcare Materials (2016), and promoted to Professor in 2023.

Research Interests include:

• Design of biomimetic systems for chronic wound, oral, and musculoskeletal care.
• Antibiotic-free antimicrobial chemistry for infection control.
• Structure-property relationships and multifunctionality in materials.
• Customisable hydrogel manufacturing via photochemistries.
• Development of intelligent textile fibres for medical devices.

• Patented collagen manufacturing technology (US and Europe) with preclinical validation in diabetic wound healing models.
