About
Dr. Giulio Maria Pasinetti holds the Saunders Family Chair as Professor of Neurology and maintains additional professorships in Psychiatry, Neuroscience, and Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He serves as Program Director of the NIH-funded Mount Sinai Center for Molecular Integrative Neuroresilience and Chief of the Brain Institute Center of Excellence for Novel Approaches to Neurodiagnostics and Neurotherapeutics.
His educational background includes an MD from the University of Milan Medical School and a PhD from the University of Milan.
Dr. Pasinetti's research pioneers molecular neuroresilience mechanisms in Alzheimer's disease, utilizing genomic and proteomic technologies to identify drug-repurposing candidates. His work spans the gut-brain axis, cognitive resilience biomarkers, and novel immunotherapies for opioid addiction, emphasizing translational pathways from preclinical models to clinical applications. Recent investigations focus on environmental stressors' impact on neurodegeneration and personalized therapeutic approaches.
His publication portfolio demonstrates consistent innovation across Alzheimer's disease modeling, neuroinflammatory pathways, and therapeutic development, with increasing emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches bridging molecular neuroscience, systems biology, and clinical neurology.
Major recognitions include:
- Foundation Queen Sofia of Spain Research Center award on Alzheimer's Disease
- Faculty Council Award for Academic Excellence, Mount Sinai School of Medicine
- Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives Award
- Zenith and Temple Foundation Discovery Awards from Alzheimer's Association
- Nathan W. & Margaret T. Shock Aging Research Foundation Award
- Turken Family fellowship from Alzheimer's Association
- Nathan Shock New Investigator Award
Through his NIH-funded centers, Dr. Pasinetti directs substantial research initiatives integrating drug discovery, diagnostic development, and clinical translation, securing major grants for neurodegenerative disease research while mentoring interdisciplinary teams. His leadership drives collaborative projects across neurology, psychiatry, and geriatrics departments.
He oversees the Mount Sinai Center for Molecular Integrative Neuroresilience and the Brain Institute Center of Excellence, which unite experts in molecular neuroscience, bioinformatics, clinical neurology, and drug development to pioneer novel neurodiagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies for age-related cognitive decline.
