Giulio Francia

Giulio Francia is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). His research focuses on cancer biology, metastasis, and therapeutic strategies, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy. He has over 20 years of experience in cancer biology and 15 years in cancer therapeutics, particularly exploring metronomic chemotherapy and drug-resistant cancers. His work aims to translate laboratory findings into clinical applications through innovative models and therapies.

Education: Ph.D. from the Imperial Cancer Research Fund (now Cancer Research UK) in London, followed by postdoctoral training in Toronto, Canada, focusing on metastasis and cancer therapeutics.

Research Interests: Dr. Francia’s expertise spans metastatic cancer mechanisms, chemosensitization strategies, and the development of preclinical models for drug resistance. His program emphasizes undergraduate student involvement in lab research and pioneering therapeutic ideas.

Awards: Recognized as a member of the UT System Academy of Distinguished Teachers, highlighting his commitment to education and research excellence. His work has contributed to UTEP’s receipt of significant grants, including National Science Foundation funding.

Advising & Grants: Leads a research program integrating clinical translation and undergraduate training. His grants include contributions from the National Science Foundation’s CREST Program (HRD-1242122) and other initiatives. Collaborative efforts with Mexican-American communities are reflected in UTEP’s cancer studies funding.
