Dr. Giulia Morale is a PhD candidate and Associate Lecturer at The Courtauld Institute of Art. Her research focuses on Sicilian Abstraction and Trans-Mediterranean modernism in Italy and beyond (1950s–1970s), supervised by Professor Sarah Wilson. She holds an MSt in History of Art and Visual Culture from the University of Oxford (2018–2019) and a BA in Philosophy from University College London (2014–2017).
Her research interests include post-war Italian art, Sicily and the Mediterranean, North African and Moroccan modernism, and the intersections of migration, art, and politics. She has been funded by the CHASE consortium (2021–2024) and The Courtauld Scholarship (2020–2021).
Morale has published in Art History and contributed to edited volumes on modern Italian art. She teaches courses on Cold War Cultures and postmodernism, and has curated exhibitions such as the VII Moscow International Biennale for Young Art (2020–2021).
